The Drainage Pump Operators work various 8–12-hour shifts, 7 days a week, including night shifts and are on call at all times. They are responsible for operating the pumps, monitoring rainfall amounts, canal levels, maintenance and general housekeeping of the pump stations.

Equipment Operators and Laborers maintain areas bordering drainage canals that lead to the drainage pump stations and surrounding areas including mowing, spraying, cleaning and clearing canals of debris.

All members of the Pumps & Canal Drainage Department team work closely together to keep St. Bernard Parish safe from the rainfall and storm waters that may come!
