St. Bernard Parish Officials began seeking assistance after the opening of the Bonnet Carre Spillway caused devastating impacts to the shrimp, crab and oyster harvest. Parish President Guy McInnis declared a State of Emergency and requested federal assistance. A number of parish officials recently traveled to Washington, D.C. to meet with members of Congress and the Trump Administration. The meetings were arranged by Fisheries Task Force Committee Chairman Michael Bayham.

The St. Bernard Parish Delegation included Parish President Guy McInnis, State Representative Ray Garofalo, Council Chair Kerri Callais, Taskforce Chairman Bayham, Executive Director of Coastal Operations John Lane, Chief Administrative Officer Ronnie Alonzo, Louisiana Oyster Task Force Member Brad Robin and other commercial fishermen from St. Bernard and Plaquemines Parish.

Task Force Chairman Bayham and Coastal Director John Lane are in D. C. with a delegation of Louisiana crabbers meeting members of Congress related to the ongoing fisheries emergency.
