SBURT FAQ

Who can use this service?
Seating priority will be given to St. Bernard Parish residents who do not have transporation. If you have your own vehicle, please use it instead. Parking at the pickup points and staging areas will be limited.

When will it be activated?
Whenever an emergency (of any type – not just a hurricane) so requires, or whenever the Parish President calls for an evacuation. Announcments will be made on WWL Radio (870 AM or 105.3 FM), and on the parish website (www.sbpg.net). If only part of the parish is evacuated, only those pickup points in or near the affected area will be used.

What can I bring with me?
One bag per person. No weapons, drugs, alcohol, or other contraband will be allowed.

Do I need to bring identification?
You need some form of picture ID, such as a Louisianan driver’s license or state ID card.

I have a special need.
If you’re ambulatory (able to get around on your own), just come to a pickup point, and SBURT will bring you to the staging area. Please be aware that the buses may nto have air conditioning. Separate buses will be used for those whose special needs so require. If you’re not ambulatory, please contact in advance by calling 504-278-4322 or 504-278-4268 so that we may make arrangements for you to be transported by Acadian Ambulance. Caretakers are encouraged to evacuate with their patients.

I have a pet.
Your pet will be tagged at the staging area, and you will receive a matching tag. However, pets will not be allowed on the buses themselves. Instead, they will be transported in covered trailers attached to some of the buses. Please have a pet carrier and any items needed for the care of your pet.

Where will I be taken?
From the staging area, you will be transported to a shelter on a SBURT or state bus.

What happens after the hurricane?
SBURT or state buses will return you to the staging area, and/or the pickup points.
