Plan Implementation

This section will be used to highlight key implementation projects as we move forward.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is currently accepting bids for construction of the St. Bernard Mississippi River Trail Phase I & II. Bids will be accepted on July 12.

The St. Bernard Mississippi River Trail extends from the east side of Valero Refinery in Meraux to the Violet Canal in Violet. The project calls for construction of a 10 ft. wide asphalt path on top of the Mississippi River levee and a handicapped accessible ramp and trailhead at the Violet Canal terminus.

This $1,000,000 project is the first phase of a bikeway system paralleling the river in St. Bernard Parish. DOTD is currently construction a bicycle lane that will connect to the City of New Orleans bicycle lane on St. Claude Avenue as part of improvements to St. Bernard Highway.

Construction on the St. Bernard Mississippi River Trail Phase I & II is expected to begin in September, 2017 and take approximately 6 months to complete.
