This workshop focused on testing for disinfection by-products and how to select testing locations. It included a seminar on how to perform the method, trending the data received, and how to interpret results.
The 40-50 participants broke into 6 teams and performed hands on lab analysis of water collected from two locations within the water plant and one from the distribution system.
“Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals selected St. Bernard Parish Water Treatment Plant to help train other various state health officials in the Area Wide Optimization Program (AWOP). The field-trip is part of a larger, week-long AWOP meeting that is being held in New Orleans. The primary goal of AWOP is to maximize public health protection through optimization of existing surface water treatment plants.”
Individuals from the following states were present to attend the training: EPA Region 6 out of Texas, EPA TSC out of Ohio, EPA Region 7 out of Kansas, and the state officials from Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Mexico, and Louisiana. The information garnered is brought back to their respective state(s) to be shared with other water treatment plant operators and owners as well.
St. Bernard Officials were pleased to work with the LA Department of Health and Hospitals to assist in training of other water quality professionals. It marks the confidence the DHH has in our St. Bernard Parish Water Plant operations.
