St. Bernard Parish Weather Update 8-23-17

TD Harvey

St. Bernard Parish Officials are monitoring the tropics and are meeting daily in preparation for this event. The National Weather Service reports Harvey has redeveloped into a Tropical Depression and should continue to strengthen as it moves toward the Texas Coast. The main impacts will be over Texas in next few days as Harvey approaches the coast then stalls. TD Harvey should begin a slow east to northeast movement toward Louisiana this weekend and early next week.

Prolonged heavy rainfall is the main threat due to slow forward speed. Rainfall totals are expected to be 5 to 10 inches for this event with tides increasing 1 to 2 feet above normal over the weekend and into next week. The forecast could change so residents should stay tuned to local news broadcast.
