The East Delacroix Marsh Creation and Terracing project, which includes the creation of approximately 375 acres of marsh, was voted #1 in the Breton Basin. This marks the third consecutive year that St. Bernard Parish had a project recognized for its excellence. Additional notable accolades include #3 rankings for the Bayou Terre aux Boeufs Ridge Restoration and Marsh Creation and the Central Wetlands Hydrologic Restoration projects.
Each will be further evaluated by the six participating CWPPRA federal and state agencies, which will vote on Phase 1 (engineering and design) funding in December 2018. Only four of the 23 projects nominated statewide will ultimately be selected. In 2016, the Bayou La Loutre Ridge Restoration and Marsh Creation project ($29.4 million) was selected for Phase 1 funding, and the engineering and design process for the project is currently ongoing.
