MERAUX, La. – The Valero Energy Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Valero Energy Corporation, today presented checks totaling $150,000 to representatives of 14 area children’s charities, from funds raised by the 2016 Valero Texas Open and Benefit for Children.

Overall, and with the overwhelming support of Valero’s business partners and sponsors, the 2016 Valero Texas Open in April raised a record $10.5 million to be distributed to children’s charities throughout the United States where Valero has major operations. The event at TPC San Antonio and the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort and Spa raised the most charity dollars of any tourney on the PGA TOUR this year.

“For agency representatives with us today, we want you to know how much we appreciate the work you do in our community to improve children’s lives,” said Jack Merrill, General Manager of the Valero Meraux Refinery, on behalf of the foundation. “All of us still face an uncertain economy, so it gives us even more joy to be able to support the children of our area once again.”

St. Bernard Parish President Guy McInnis helped with the check presentation. Also in attendance was St. Bernard Councilwoman District D Wanda Alcon.

With this year’s result, Valero has raised more than $111 million since becoming title sponsor in 2002, and last year the tournament became one of only four PGA TOUR events to eclipse $100 million. As title sponsor, Valero was the fastest to reach that mark, in just 14 years. Agencies selected to receive Benefit for Children dollars each year are nominated and selected by Valero employees.

“Our process, from start to finish, is driven by our employees,” General Manager Merrill said. “It reflects the respect they have for agencies making the most impact on children’s lives each year.”

The 2016 Valero Benefit for Children local recipients are:

· CASA New Orleans (St. Bernard location)
· Fresh Breath of Life Inc.
· Families Helping Families
· Ukulele Kids Club
· Lighthouse Ranch for Boys
· McLindon Family Foundation
· National Tuberous Sclerosis Association Inc.
· Shriners Hospital
· St. Bernard Battered Womens Program
· The Arc of Greater New Orleans (St. Bernard location)
· Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater New Orleans Inc.
· St. Bernard Parish School Board Special Olympics
· Liberty’s Kitchen
· Santa on the Bayou

“The slogan of our campaign this year was ‘Making Hope Happen in Millions of Ways,’ and we certainly did that, thanks again to the very generous support of our business partners, and the tireless efforts of our employees and volunteers,” said Lane Riggs, Valero Executive Vice President-Refining Operations and Engineering, and 2016 Valero Texas Open Company Chair.

Online auctions provide winning bidders with full ownership of each property including title insurance

On Tuesday, November 1st at 6:00 p.m., St. Bernard Parish Government will partner with CivicSource to hold an educational seminar on purchasing tax adjudicated real estate. The seminar will be held in the St. Bernard Parish Council Chambers located at 8201 W. Judge Perez Drive in Chalmette, LA. The event is free and open to the public. Interested citizens will learn how to purchase tax adjudicated real estate with title insurance at an average starting price of $5,000.

St. Bernard Parish is taking the necessary steps to sell adjudicated properties through a new online auction process. The properties are those that previously went unsold in a tax sale, and as a result, became adjudicated to the parish.

St. Bernard Parish is collaborating with CivicSource to auction the tax delinquent properties. The sales will place these properties back on the tax rolls, return them to commerce and generate significant, recurring annual tax revenues to the parish.

“We appreciate the partnership with CivicSource to help spur new development and strengthen neighborhoods across our parish,” said Guy McInnis, St. Bernard Parish President.”

There is a complete listing of qualified adjudicated properties on CivicSource.com where investors nominate properties for auction through a sale initiating deposit of $850. The online auction replaces the traditional adjudication sale held at the Courthouse where participants were required to be present during the auction process. By hosting the sale online, bidders who would not normally be able to attend the auction in person are still able to participate from their homes or places of business.

CivicSource has already proven successful in other communities across the state. Since launching last year, the auctions have collected nearly $20 million in unbudgeted revenue through the sale of over 1,000 properties. If you would like to attend the educational seminar for St. Bernard Parish tax adjudicated real estate, email your RSVP to RSVP@CivicSource.com.
