St.
Bernard Council on Aging celebrated
Older Americans Month
The St. Bernard Council on Aging joined councils all over the
state by celebrating ‘Older Americans Month’ in May. One senior
was chosen each day during the month to be named Senior for a
Day. Each winner received a weather alert radio and an
invitation to join the Council on Aging Director Susan McNeil
for lunch at the Riverbend Bistro in June.
Each senior chosen posed for a special picture, which will be
proudly displayed all year at the COA Senior Center at 8201-A
West Judge Perez Drive in Chalmette. The COA serves seniors who
are at least 60 years old and reside in St. Bernard Parish.
The Seniors for a Day for 2008 were: Albert Avenel Sr., Ramona
Elsensohn, Virginia Acosta, Martha Brouillette, Joyce Henry,
Elaine Kivell, Waldo Esteves Jr., Josie Gowland, Joseph Glenn,
Rose Cimino, Richard Felder, Evelyn Barthe, Anna Pulley, Shirley
Campbell, Carolyn Constance, Doris Hunsinger, Rose Vallelungo,
Joyce Frey, Gerry Avenel, Martin Gallardo and Frank Marchese.
