St. Bernard residents can bring new construction debris to Paris
Road transfer site in Chalmette and E. J. Gore Station in
Poydras
Residents will not
be charged for residential debris dumping
New
construction debris remains ineligible for FEMA reimbursement
and must be controlled and disposed of by the landowner
responsible for the debris. However, a recent review of the
availability for local residential debris hauling and dumping
has resulted in a few changes and clarifications.
There is no fee for residential dumping, but residents will only
be able to dump at two locations: a designated ramped area at
the Paris Road site in Chalmette and the E.J. Gore pumping
station on East Judge Perez Drive in Poydras. St. Bernard Parish
President Craig P. Taffaro Jr. said the new policy will take
effect immediately and will require a person to show a valid St.
Bernard driver’s license and have a trailer no larger than 16
feet.
People wanting to dump debris from larger trailers will have to
get a letter of clearance from the Office of the Parish Chief
Administrative Officer on the second floor of the Government
Complex at 8201 W. Judge Perez Drive in Chalmette. There is
three-haul maximum in any one-month period. Additional hauls
within a one-month period will require a letter of clearance
from the Parish CAO office.
“Despite the enormous increases in cost to the parish
government, it is a service that must be made available for our
residents during our ongoing recovery and growth period,”
Taffaro said.
If a resident is found to be dumping commercial debris, the
individual will be banned from using any St. Bernard Parish
facility for five years. Commercial dumping will continue at the
Paris Road site and fees will be paid directly to SDT Waste and
Disposal.
Both sites are manned for residential debris drop off seven days
a week from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
