HOMEOWNERS NEEDED TO SERVE AS HEARING PANELISTS FOR CONDEMNATION
AND DEMOLITIONS APPEALS
St.
Bernard Parish Government is now accepting applications for
volunteers to serve as condemnation/demolition hearing
panelists. Hearings have been scheduled from June 2, 2008
through the remainder of the year. Volunteers will be divided
into teams of three and will be responsible for making
recommendations to the Department of Community Development,
Office of Safety and Permits regarding the status of condemned
structures.
The deadline to apply has been extended to Tuesday, May 27,
2008.
Qualifications:

Must be a current resident of St. Bernard Parish

Must be a registered voter in St. Bernard and a homeowner
-
Cannot be the owner or co-owner or immediate family member
of the owner of any structure that is currently on the
condemnation list in St. Bernard Parish
-
Cannot be an employee of St. Bernard Parish Government
-
Must be able to attend hearings for no less than three (3)
consecutive hours per week
All
hearings will be conducted on Mondays through Thursdays from 5
to 8 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Each hearing
will last no more than fifteen (15) minutes. Panelists will be
asked to submit their recommendations in writing at the close of
each hearing and will not be required to publicly state their
position. Recommendations will be taken into consideration by
the Department of Community Development, Office of Safety and
Permits, which will moderate all hearings and notify property
owners of all decisions regarding their structure.

and Permits, Room 216 in St. Bernard Parish Government Complex.

There will be a seminar for all hearing panelists on the evening
of May 28 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in Trailer K-6 at the St. Bernard
Parish Government Complex, 8201 W. Judge Perez Drive in
Chalmette.
