St.
Bernard Parish Government has initiated a public participation
process to identify environmental issues impacting quality of life
of its residents. Funded by an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
Community Action for a Renewed Environment (CARE) grant, the Parish
with assistance from Toxicological & Environmental Associates, Inc.
(TEA) will conduct five public meetings and multiple, focused
meetings resulting in a citizen supported pollution reduction plan.
Meetings will focus on identifying the issues, educating Parish
participants on these issues -- separating myth from reality and
identifying solutions. Solutions will include EPA voluntary
programs, many of which cost very little. For more expensive
solutions, Parish Government will apply for a CARE II grant among
other opportunities.
