MEETINGS PLANNED FOR FISHERIES DISASTER ASSISTANCE

Louisiana commercial fisherman and wholesale/retail seafood dealers to get help

The Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Grant Assistance Program will be hosting informational meetings regarding the $41.2 million appropriation by Congress allocated to Louisiana for fisheries disaster assistance programs.

Louisiana resident commercial fisherman, commercial fishing vessel license holders and wholesale/retail seafood dealers with trip ticket recorded sales or purchases during the twelve-month period (September 1, 2004 – August 31, 2005) prior to Hurricane Katrina qualify for some level of personal assistance.

The Regional Planning Commission (RPC) is working in partnership with South Central Planning and Development Commission (SCPDC), and the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries to administer the program.

Informational meetings about the program will be held for the Greater New Orleans area during the following dates and times:

·         Chalmette High School, May 28th at 5:30 p.m.

·         Lafitte Auditorium, May 29th at 2 and 6:30 p.m.

·         Belle Chasse High School, June 4th at 2 and 6:30 p.m.

For additional information you can visit www.scpdc.org/fisheriesassistance or contact SCPDC at 985-655-1051.
